FAQs for the MIND Integration Programme  – BEYOND EXPERIENCE

  • What is the MIND Integration Process?

Beyond Experience is a sequence of three workshop weekends, spaced over a timeframe of about two months. It offers a safe container for deep self-exploration in the form of an intense closed group process. The focus is on the integration of experiences acquired in expanded states of consciousness, both substance and non-substance induced.
This covers both difficult and „simply“ intense experiences.
Beyond Experience is not intended to mainly provide information – theoretic input on harm reduction and the like will be provided, but please expect to be moving, painting and interacting a lot, too!

  • I’m interested in expanded states of consciousness, but have little or no experience with psychoactive substances. Does it make sense to take part in Beyond Experience?

Expanded states of consciousness can be achieved by very different means: Breathwork, yoga, trance dance, tantra, meditation or sensory deprivation – just to name a few.
While most participants of Beyond Experience will have some experience with psychoactive substances, our work does not stop at integrating experiences with psychedelics or the like. Our design is equally suitable for participants who have made their strong experiences in other contexts.

  • What is the theoretical background of Beyond Experience?

The team that is creating Beyond Experience consists of up to 15 people from different backgrounds and disciplines. Ranging from coaches, psychotherapists, medical doctors and body workers to prevention experts and psychedelic support providers, they have contributed many different methods and theoretical frameworks.
The two concepts that have proven most useful in the creation of Beyond Experience are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Transpersonal Psychology.

  • Can the workshops replace psychotherapy?

Even though Beyond Experience is based on therapeutical principles, it is definitely not a surrogate for therapy, but a self-experience format. We do not assume therapeutical responsibility, but will mirror the possible need for therapeutic aid to participants during the workshops.

  • What methods are used?

The weekends consist of many different methods and tools, that vary in distribution and intensity over the course of the Integration Process. Among many other methods we use creative expression through artwork and automated writing. Dancing, bodywork, meditation and entrancing techniques like hypno dream quests and selected yoga asanas provide options to go deeper.
At certain points of the workshops we will also provide short lectures on relevant topics such as drug related harm reduction and information on scientific integration concepts.

  • Are psychoactive substances part of the workshops?

At Beyond Experience, we do not facilitate sessions with psychoactive substances, but we help you to integrate the experiences you have gathered already – and help you prepare for further experiences yet to come.

  • What about sensitive content? Will the things I disclose turn up in publications or the internet?

All participants and facilitators agree on confidentiality at the beginning of the Integration Process.

  • What about pictures from the workshop?

Even though we would surely like some pictures and testimonials for our website, we will always seek permission before publishing any written or photo material.

  • Why do I have to fill out the medical form?

During the workshops, we are intending to go into a deep self-experience process that includes re-evoking content from experiences acquired in expanded states of consciousness. While this should be unproblematic for most participants, we want to make sure that we will not bring anybody in an overwhelmingly difficult situation through the intense techniques we use. The medical form helps us screen for possible difficulties and exclusion criteria.

  • Are there any exclusion criteria?

Because of the set-up of the workshops, we reserve the right to exclude or discourage people from participation that we consider physically or mentally unable to safely follow through with the Beyond Experience. This includes physical recent cardiac problems or recent bone fractures as well as recent psychotic episodes or suicidality. If we are in doubt on a possible participation, we contact the person individually in order to establish a mutual agreement on suitability.

  • Can I book the workshops individually?

Beyond Experience weekends can not be booked separately, in order to guarantee a stable group environment for intense inner work.

  • I can’t travel to Berlin or Amsterdam that frequently. Are there any other options to participate?

Currently the three weekend sequence is the only available format for Beyond Experience, but we are planning to create a six day „residential“ format where the content of the three weekend is taught en bloc, as well as „Integration Weekends“ to provide a first insight in our work. These formats will be scheduled and advertised within the next year.

  • How much does the workshop series cost? Are there reduced fee options?

The current cost for Beyond Experience is 400€ regular price for the couple course of the weekends. Reductions are available for MIND members, early bird booking and low income. Combining MIND membership reduction and early bird fee, the price can drop to 300€ for the whole Integration Process.
For those who want to better their karma by supporting a pal, there is the option to pay more and sponsor a low-income participant this way.
Please note: These prices are introductionary prices for a new program and will definitely rise in the future.

  • How is „low income“ defined for the booking process?

We have decided to define low income as less than 840€ net income per months, coherent with the German welfare budget assigned per person. Please include
proof of eligibility when you opt for „low income“.

  • I don’t have money. Can I exchange project work for participation?

MIND is a members based volunteer organization. We do assign free spots on our workshops to people who have intensely contributed to our volunteer projects, but we do not trade workshops for volunteering on a 1:1 basis.

  • What payment methods are available?

You can pay via Paypal or opt to be billed.

  • When do I have to pay?

Please pay your bill within 2 weeks after receiving it. Please note that your placements is not finally secured unless we have received the full payment and had the chance to approve your medical form.

  • Where do the workshops take place?

The workshops take place in the city centers of Berlin and Amsterdam respectively. You will receive more detailed information upon confirmation of your placement.

  • What is the timetable for the weekends?

The weekends consist of the following sessions:

    Friday 6pm – 9.30 pm
    Saturday 10am – 5 pm
    Sunday 10am – 3pm

The starting times are German scheduling – please be on time!

  • Who are the facilitators?

Each Integration Process is facilitated by three people: Two main facilitators with extended experience in conducting workshops and a support facilitator. The teams are gender mixed and consist of people with different training backgrounds in order to cover as many different relevant facets as possible.

  • How can I stay in contact with the other participants in between the workshops and after?

We will make a participant forum available on our website. However, if you don’t feel like connecting further, thats totally fine by us

  • Why do I receive an evaluation survey after every workshop?

As we are currently refining and finalizing the Integration Process manual, we are very interested in your feedback on the workshops. Your evaluation sheets enable us to make Beyond Experience even better!

  • I have missed a workshop due to illness. Can I still come to the next weekends?

If you have missed the first weekend, we would offer to transfer you to the next group at your location of choice. If you miss any other weekend, we would like to get in touch personally to find a suitable solution.

  • I’m interested in facilitating „Beyond Experience“ groups myself. Will it be possible to train up to this in the future?

We are planning to make Beyond Experience available for many more groups of participants in the future. This will require a concise manual and training suitable facilitators. Having participated in Beyond Experience will be a key criteria for admission to facilitator training, as well as previous training, pre-experience in leading workshops and personal factors.
The facilitator training is likely to start in 2020, please let us now if you want to be notified when it will be open to admission!
