Psilocybin, MDMA, breathwork sessions or intensive forms of meditation may create enormous turmoil in how a person views the world and her-/himself. A culture of integration requires structures and well-informed people – on all sides of the aisle. The Integration Circle Series consists of a number of structured workshops that address the need for “doing something with the psychedelic experience”. That need arises either because confusion, distress or harm occur. Or – much more frequent – because people fail in making something out of the insights and emotional revelations that they experience in altered states of consciousness (ASC).
There is a lot of talk about psychedelic integration today. The goal of the Integration Circles project is:
- to create half-manualized, high quality settings that are adequate for the needs of people who have intentionally (or rarely unintentionally) experienced a psychedelic state. We work on building the Integration Circles on the theoretical and practical grounds of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) theory bites from transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy research.
- to train psychotherapists, physicians and other professionals in the field in dealing with altered states of consciousness – without prematurely pathologizing these states. The later often results in ineffective and harmful (pharma)therapies or stigmatizes the clients
- to evaluate the different integration circle formats, in order to find out, if they conribute to solving real life problems
We pilot the different formats in 2018 and 2019, optimize our manual and train facilitators. After the five pilot groups we will evaluate BEYOND EXPERIENCE with sound scientific methods. The MIND Integration Circles are facilitated by experienced therapists and trainers. This is not a therapy and will not substitute a treatment.
