Nelis de Wit is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During his residency, he felt that he needed more language to address the complex pathways of the mind/brain, which is why he trained as a psychoanalytical psychotherapist. The psychoanalytical theories heavily influence his practice as psychiatrist in a general hospital (Rijnstate Hospital, Arnhem, the Netherlands). In this hospital, the intertwinedness of body and mind is always near. Long-term psychoanalytical therapy in the outpatient clinic, mentalization-based interventions in the emergency ward, (es)ketamine treatment with depressed patients, electroconvulsive therapy with severe catatonia are all part of Nelis’ daily practice. Nelis is an APT alumnus who took part in the first course that started in 2021.
