MIND Foundation has cllwith FINDER and the Psychotropic Substances Research Group at the Charité Universitätsmedizin  in organizing the track Psychedelic Medicine. Thank you for the cooperation. Since we think that researching psychedelic states should not be considered in isolation placing it within the family of other drug science disciplines seems essential to us. FINDER is working on producing the videos of talks about the six tracks addiction medicine, prevention, internet and drugs, drug policy research, neuroscience and psychedelic science. MIND promotes the scientific exploration of altered states of consciousness. Many of such states qualify to be called psychedelic. The word “psychedelic” means “manifesting the mind” – no matter whether this be induced by means of psychoactive substances or other methods that alter everyday consciousness. We work for safe and legal contexts to allow for the mindful handling of such states – so that therapeutic and transformative effects may come into fruition.

We bring together researchers from the natural and social sciences as well as from cultural studies for writing grants, discussing results and creating reliable knowledge. MIND networking partner for researchers, sponsors and supporters. Moreover, we enable adequate prevention of complications in the dealing with these states, as well as appropriate treatment.

Establishing the psychedelic experience as a tool for personal and societal development.

I support MIND, because we need to institutionalize a well-informed educational, ethical, political, medical, spiritual, and scientific ‹culture of consciousness› (‹Bewusstseinskultur› acc. to T. Metzinger); a progressive culture that sufficiently differentiates the subtle plurality of harmful, and desirable states of consciousness beyond questionable classifications of pharmacological as ‹bad›, and non-pharmacological as non-harmful technologies of consciousness. The crucial question is: What is a ‹good› state of consciousness, and which states (independent of the methods of induction) are we willing to integrate into our culture?

I support Psychedelic science, because the conceptual, and empirical study of etiology-independent disruptions of subpersonal processes underlying the phenomenal self (i.e. ego dissolution) fosters our phenomenological, psychological, and ontological knowledge and understanding of (self-)consciousness, its capacities, its pathologies, and its subjectivity. Sound Psychedelic science should be informed by Philosophy of mind, and Cognitive sciences – and vice versa. My fundamental question is: What is the epistemological value of psychedelic ego dissolution or rather mine-ness loss for understanding selfhood and the subjectivity of consciousness?
